Torres to play in Classic for Venezuela

PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. -- Left-hander Alex Torres has been added to the Venezuelan roster for the World Baseball Classic.
Torres, 25, came to the Rays in the 2009 deal that sent Scott Kazmir to the Angels. He went 3-7 with a 7.30 ERA in 26 appearances (14 starts) for Triple-A Durham in 2012.
He is 1-1 with a 3.38 ERA in four career appearances with the Rays. All of those appearances came in 2011.
Torres is the fifth Rays player to be participating in the Classic, joining catcher Jose Molina (Puerto Rico), outfielder/infielder Ben Zobrist (United States), left-handed reliever Cesar Ramos and closer Fernando Rodney (Dominican Republic).
