Nationals No. 3 prospect breaks 0-for-18 skid with two-run blast in Chiefs' win
Trea Turner hit his first Triple-A home run on Wednesday, a third-inning shot during Syracuse's 10-1 win over Louisville that broke up an 0-for-18 start to his tenure with the Chiefs.
The Nationals' No. 3 prospect (No. 51 overall) has had quite a year. In December, he was the "player to be named later" in a three-team trade that included the Nats, Rays and Padres, Turner's former organization. League rules would not allow Turner to make the switch to Washington's farm system until this month, so he raked -- .322/.385/.471, five homers and 35 RBIs -- for the Padres' Double-A team, the San Antonio Missions, until June 13.
He then entered Washington's organization and notched 14 hits in 10 games for Double-A Harrisburg before receiving a promotion to Syracuse last week. But the beginning of his Chiefs career was tough as he started out 0-for-17 with one run and zero RBIs heading into Wednesday's game.
After launching his two-run homer, Turner reached base twice more on force-outs. Those at-bats won't help his average, but he did score his third and fourth runs in a Chiefs uniform.
