Bauer, Carrasco to start Indians' twin bill

BALTIMORE -- The Indians' probable starters for Friday's doubleheader against the White Sox have not been a secret, but now they are official.

Cleveland manager Terry Francona confirmed on Thursday that right-handers Trevor Bauer and Carlos Carrasco will be called up from Triple-A Columbus to start in the twin bill in Chicago. Bauer will technically be recalled from Columbus, and Carrasco will be added as the 26th man on the roster.

The Indians have not announced the subsequent move to add Bauer to the rotation.

In 12 starts for Triple-A Columbus this season, Bauer has gone 3-2 with a 4.12 ERA, compiling 67 strikeouts against 36 walks in 65 1/3 innings. The righty has made three spot starts for Cleveland this season, going 1-2 with a 2.76 ERA. In 16 1/3 big league innings this year, Bauer has 11 strikeouts and 15 walks, but he has held hitters to a .161 average.

Carrasco was optioned to Triple-A on Monday, but the goal all along was to utilize Major League Baseball's 26th man rule (as stipulated in the Collective Bargaining Agreement) to bring him back on regular rest for the start against the White Sox. After his outing in Chicago, Carrasco can be sent back to Triple-A for four days prior to returning to Cleveland's rotation.

In four starts for the Indians, Carrasco has gone 0-3 with a 7.78 ERA. On Sunday, he took the loss against the Twins after giving up three runs on six hits in 4 2/3 innings. The right-hander has gone 2-0 with a 3.21 ERA and 50 strikeouts in 47 2/3 innings in 10 games at Triple-A this season.
