DENVER -- Trevor Story let the ball fly on Saturday night at Coors Field, but his heroics fell short with the Rockies' 12-7 loss to the Diamondbacks.
Story homered in each of his first two at-bats against D-backs right-hander Matt Koch. Story is now averaging 420 feet per home run this season, per Statcast™, which leads the Majors, overtaking Red Sox first baseman Mitch Moreland, whose clouts average 419 feet. Story entered Saturday at 417, which was the highest for any right-handed batter (minimum 10 homers) and tied with Travis Shaw for second-highest, overall.
"I'm just not trying to do too much," Story said. "Just get in the right spot, looking for my pitch, putting good swings on it."
His first homer on Saturday off Koch was a 459-foot shot to center field. It was the second-longest homer of Story's three-year career, according to Statcast™. His longest came earlier this season, when he crushed one 464 feet to the concourse beyond the left-field bleachers, on April 23 against the Padres.

Story's second homer off Koch was 417 feet to left field and gave the Rockies a 4-2 lead. Saturday marks the seventh multi-homer game of Story's career and the second this season. His first multi-homer game of 2018 was May 12 against the Brewers.
Story has hit three home runs in the past two days, and he now leads Colorado with 14 homers.
Offense wasn't the only impact Story had on Saturday. He made a diving stop in the seventh inning on Jarrod Dyson's single. The stop saved a run, keeping David Peralta, who represented the tying run, on third base.
"I knew Dyson is really fast," Story said. "With two outs in a situation like that with a runner on second, you just try to keep the ball in the infield if you have a chance. Just trying to save a run here or there. We got out of it then."
