Story making bid to start in All-Star Game

June 2nd, 2016

DENVER -- Rockies shortstop Trevor Story may be well on his way to a National League Rookie of the Year Award, and with a few more votes, he may earn a start at the 2016 All-Star Game in San Diego.
While no Rockies players currently lead in the All-Star voting at any position, Story's 534,290 votes fall just 9,950 short of the Cubs' Addison Russell's leading total after the first weekly voting update was released by Major League Baseball on Wednesday. Story is tied for sixth in the Majors and first among rookies with 14 home runs, and he earned NL Rookie of the Month honors in April.
"It's an honor," Story said. "There's a lot of great players in this league. You grew up dreaming about being an All-Star, and for me to have a chance to do that is pretty special."

Nolan Arenado, who is tied for the Major League lead in home runs, is second in the voting at third base with 593,691 votes, but he trails he trail Cubs slugger Kris Bryant, who is at 776,107 votes.
Carlos Gonzalez is the only other Rockies player to appear in the top five of any position or top 15 outfielders. He is currently in 11th place with 212,112 votes.

Washington's Bryce Harper leads all NL players with 838,599 votes, and the Cubs lead all teams with five players leading their positions, including the infield of first baseman Anthony Rizzo, second baseman Ben Zobrist, Bryant and Russell.
