Tri-City pitchers combine on one-hit shutout

Sanchez's slam gives Triple-A El Paso a doubleheader split

Four pitchers combined on a one-hit shutout for Class A Tri-City on Thursday night, and left-handed starter Jerry Keel and right-handed reliever David Bednar combined on a six-hitter as Class A Fort Wayne defeated West Michigan, 3-1, in the Indiana city.
Catcher hit a grand slam as Triple-A El Paso split a doubleheader in Tacoma.
Keel, who has a 2.97 ERA for the TinCaps, allowed one run on six hits, no walks and six strikeouts over seven innings. Bednar (1-2, 5.14 ERA) allowed one hit with four strikeouts over two scoreless innings to get the win for Fort Wayne (12-21 in the second half of the Midwest League season and 48-55 overall).
Right fielder Jhonatan Pena (.210) was 2-for-3 with a double and a RBI for Fort Wayne. Left fielder Tyler Selesky (.545) was 2-for-4 with a double. Catcher Austin Allen (.307) was 1-for-3 with a walk and a run scored.
At Spokane, Tri-City (1-2, 20-21) scored a 3-0 win.
Left-handed starter Joey Lucchesi (2.14 ERA) gave up the only hit allowed by Dust Devil pitchers. He also issued a walk with four strikeouts in three innings.
Right-hander Braxton Lorenzini (2-2, 8.14 ERA) struck out two in four scoreless innings. Righty Evan Miller (2.76 ERA) issued a walk with two strikeouts in a hitless inning, and righty Diomer Lopez (2.33 ERA) issued a walk with a strikeout in a hitless inning to complete the shutout with his second save.
Sanchez's grand slam came in the opener of the doubleheader as El Paso scored a 5-3 victory. Tacoma won the second seven-inning game, 5-4. The split left El Paso at 60-46 on the season.

Sanchez (.411) was 3-for-7 in the doubleheader, with his ninth homer, four RBIs and two runs scored.
Center fielder (.306) was 4-for-8 with a double, a RBI and two runs scored. Second baseman (.328) was 2-for-8 with a RBI and a run scored.
Left fielder Auston Bousfield (.234) had a two-run double in two at-bats. Third baseman (.290) was 1-for-2 with a RBI. Designated hitter (.353) and third baseman Felipe Blanco (.200) -- who was promoted from Class A Lake Elsinore -- were each 1-for-3 with a run scored.
Right-hander Michael Kelly (6-1, 4.54 ERA) started the first game and allowed three runs on six hits and a walk with a strikeout in five innings. Righty (6.06 ERA) issued a walk with two strikeouts over two perfect innings to get his second save.
Right-hander Bryan Rodriguez (4-4, 5.25 ERA) was activated from the disabled list to start the second game, and he allowed five runs on seven hits and three walks with two strikeouts in 3 1/3 innings to suffer the loss.
Right-hander Eric Yardley (4.00 ERA) allowed a hit and a walk with a strikeout in 1 2/3 scoreless innings. Left-hander (3.65) pitched a perfect inning.

Starting RHP Dinelson Lamet (3-5, 3.93 ERA) allowed four runs (two earned) on four hits and a walk with seven strikeouts in five innings. RHP Martires Arias (5.65 ERA) allowed two runs (one earned) on six hits and a walk with three strikeouts in 2 1/3 innings. RHP Trey Wingenter (2.15 ERA) allowed a hit with two strikeouts in 1 2/3 scoreless innings. RHP Gerardo Reyes (4.22 ERA) allowed two runs on two hits and a walk with a strikeout in one inning.

ARIZONA ROOKIE PADRES (13-17) -- BREWERS 7, Padres 0: Starting RHP Cal Quantrill (0-2, 5.27 ERA) allowed three runs on three hits and two walks with five strikeouts in 3 2/3 innings. RHP Jonathan Guzman (11.02 ERA) allowed four runs on seven hits and a walk in 1 1/3 innings. RHPs Starlin Cordero (3.68 ERA) and Dom DiSabatino (8.10 ERA) each struck out one in an inning. RHP Juan Arias (12.83 ERA) allowed three hits in a scoreless inning. 3B Hudson Potts (.310) had two doubles in four at-bats. LF Jack Suwinski (.244) was 2-for-3 with a walk. 1B Jacquez Williams (.178) was 2-for-4.
