Trio on Tigers' coaching staff played for Bochy

DETROIT -- When Giants manager Bruce Bochy looks across the Comerica Park playing surface into the Tigers' dugout this weekend, he'll see a number of his former protégés.

Three members of the Detroit coaching staff -- first-base coach Omar Vizquel, hitting coach Wally Joyner and manager Brad Ausmus -- each played for Bochy for at least a couple seasons.

Not one of the trio of former Bochy players was a part of the Tigers when Bochy's Giants swept Detroit in the 2012 World Series. Ausmus played for Bochy in San Diego in 1995 before being traded to Detroit during the 1996 season. Joyner played for the Padres from 1996-99. Vizquel is the only one of the three to have played for Bochy as a Giant, from 2007-08.

This weekend marks San Francisco's first trip back to the Motor City since the 2012 Fall Classic.

"Very special moment," Bochy said of winning his second World Series title in Detroit. "The clubhouse seemed pretty quiet [today]. Last time we were here, there were so many people in there."
