Triple A El Paso wins eighth straight, takes PCL division lead

Class A Fort Wayne winning streak snapped at 10

Second baseman Casey McElroy had four hits and right fielder Rymer Liriano had three hits and drove in two runs Thiursday night as Triple-A El Paso scored a 7-5 win in Memphis to extend their winning streak to
eight straight games.

The win also moved the Chihuahuas into first place in the Pacific Coast League's Pacific Southern Division.

Meanwhile, low Single-A Fort Wayne suffered a 7-4 loss at Bowling Green, ending the TinCaps' franchise-equaling-record 10-game winning streak and reducing their lead in the Midwest League's Eastern Division to 2 1Ž2 games.

McElroy (.293) had a double, scored two runs and drove in a run. Liriano (.285) had two RBIs and a run scored. Catcher Jason Hagerty (.307) homered in three at-bats for the Chihuahuas.

Left fielder Alex Dickerson (.316, Poway High) was 2-for-2 with a double, two walks and a hit-by-pitcher, a RBI and two runs scored. Center fielder Jake Goebbert (.301) was 2-for-3 with a RBI. SS Hector Gomez (.351) was 2-for-4 with a double, a RBI and a run scored.

Starting right-handed pitcher Justin Hancock (2.61 earned run average) allowed two runs on eight hits and a walk with two strikeouts in 4 2/3 innings. Right-hander Nick Vincent (5-3, 3.30 ERA) picked up the win with 1 1/3 perfect innings.

Right-hander Michael Dimock (0.66) allowed a hit with two strikeouts in two scoreless innings. Left-hander Frank Garces (1.93) allowed a walk while striking out two in two-thirds of an inning for his third save.

Right-handed reliever Dale Thayer joined El Paso after clearing waivers with the Padres.

AROUND THE FARM:

DOUBLE-A SAN ANTONIO (55-68): Northwest Arkansas 3, MISSIONS 2 (13 innings) - C-1B Griffin Erickson (.227) was 4-for-5 with a double. DH Alberth Martinez (.284) was 2-for-6 with an RBI a day after his streak of reaching base in 33 straight games ended. Starting RHP Bryce Morrow (5.17 ERA) allowed two runs on four hits and a walk with seven strikeouts in six innings. RHP Aaron Northcraft (2.57), who was transferred back to the Missions from El Paso earlier in the day, allowed a hit with three strikeouts in two scoreless innings. LHP Eury De La Rosa (1.53) allowed two hits with three strikeouts in two scoreless innings. RHP Genison Reyes (0-1, 0.00) gave up an unearned run in the top of the 13th on a hit and a walk to suffer the loss.

HIGH SINGLE-A LAKE ELSINORE (45-78): Lancaster 4, STORM 0 - Starting LHP Brad Wieck (1-6, 5.76 ERA) allowed two runs on eight hits with two strikeouts in 6 1/3 innings. 1B Marcus Davis (.253) was 2-for-4. Earlier in the day, the Padres signed 1B-OF Matt Chavez from the independent leagues and assigned him to Lake Elsinore.

LOW SINGLE-A FORT WAYNE (66-54): BOWLING GREEN 7,TinCaps 4 - RHP Ernesto Montas (3.50 ERA) allowed two runs on six hits with three strikeouts in six innings. RHP T.J. Weir (5-4, 4.15 ERA) allowed five runs on four hits and two walks with a strikeout in 1 1/3 innings to blow the save and suffer the loss. 3B Luis Urias (.321) was 2-for-4 with a double. SS Ruddy Giron (.297) was 2-for-5 with a RBI and a run scored. LF Franchy Cordero (.238) was 2-for-4 with two steals (21 on the season) a run scored and a RBI.

SHORT-SEASON SINGLE-A TRI-CITY (33-27): DUST DEVILS 3, Everett 3 - CF Rod Boykin (.256) was 3-for-4 with a double and a homer for two RBIs and two runs scored. 2B Kodie Tidwell (.289) was 2-for-3 with a double, a RBI and a run scored. Starting RHP Adrian De Horta (1-0, 2.42 ERA) allowed three runs on three hits with a walk and a strikeout in five innings. LHP Jerry Keel (3.25) allowed a hit with a strikeout in two innings. RHP Phil Maton (0.95) gave up a hit with two strikeouts in a scoreless inning to get his fifth save.

ARIZONA ROOKIE PADRES (19-29): Indians 6, PADRES 1 - Starting RHP Jordan Guerrero (2-1, 4.37 ERA) allowed five runs (four earned) on eight hits and walk with four strikeouts in 3 1/3 innings. RHP Blake Rogers (2.66) allowed two hits with a strikeout in 1 2/3 innings. RHP Trey Wingenter (1.35) allowed a hit with a strikeout in two scoreless innings.

DOMINICAN SUMMER LEAGUE PADRES (31-39): REDS 10, Padres 6 - Starting LHP Cristian Machuca (2-2, 4.74 ERA) allowed seven runs (six earned) on six hits and five walks with three strikeouts in 3 1/3 innings. LHP Elby Cooper (3.00) allowed a run on two hits with two strikeouts in 1 2/3 innings. RHP Jonathan Guzman (3.58) allowed a hit with a walk in two innings. C Jose Lezama (.328) was 2-for-4 with a double, a walk and a RBI. SS Elvis Sabala (.126) was 1-for-3 with a walk, a steal and two runs scored.
