Fans in attendance for Friday's matchup between Class A Lake County and Lansing were treated to a pitchers' duel between starters Triston McKenzie and Ryan Borucki, who combined for 11 scoreless innings and 18 strikeouts. Ultimately, it was McKenzie, the Indians' No. 7 prospect, who recorded the win as the Captains shut out Lansing, 3-0.
Making his fifth start for Lake County, McKenzie surrendered just two hits and a walk over six scoreless innings. He struck out nine, throwing 57 of his 84 pitches for strikes.
"I attacked with my fastball heavy and used both of my offspeed pitches to mix both of them in there and keep them off my fastball," McKenzie told MiLB.com. "I wanted to get them out in front of the offspeed and have them behind my fastball to where I get popups and groundouts."
The 19-year-old right-hander lowered his Midwest League ERA to 2.73 through 29 2/3 innings, during which he's posted an outstanding strikeout-to-walk ratio of 43-4. Before moving up to full-season ball, McKenzie, whom the Indians selected with the No. 42 overall pick in the 2015 Draft, posted a 0.55 ERA and a 0.95 WHIP with 55 strikeouts in 49 1/3 frames (nine starts) for Class A Short Season Mahoning Valley.
Overall, McKenzie sports a 1.37 ERA, a 0.93 WHIP and a 98-20 strikeout-to-walk ratio through 79 innings (14 starts) this season, during which opponents are batting just .183 against him.
As for Borucki, the Blue Jays' No. 17 prospect scattered three hits over five scoreless frames and tied his career high with nine strikeouts. The Lugnuts' left-hander fanned exactly half of the batters he faced and did not issue a walk while tossing 61 pitches (48 strikes).
A 15th-round Draft pick out of high school in 2012, Borucki logged just 68 2/3 frames during his first four pro seasons due to a host of arm injuries. He missed all of 2013 due to Tommy John surgery and then was limited to just 5 2/3 innings in '15 as a result of both elbow and shoulder ailments. But Borucki has made up for some of that lost time this season by posting a 2.44 ERA with 102 strikeouts over 110 2/3 innings (19 starts) for Lansing.

• No. 21 overall prospectGleyber Torres powered Class A Advanced Tampa to a 7-6 win over Brevard County as he went 2-for-3 with a home run and four RBIs. The homer was the Yankees' No. 2 prospect's 11th of the season and second in 26 games since being dealt by the Cubs in the Aroldis Chapman deal.
• No. 34 overall prospectFrancis Martes (Astros' No. 2) scattered three hits over seven scoreless innings to pace Double-A Corpus Christi in a 7-0 shutout of Midland. He issued one walk, struck out four and generated 11 ground-ball outs, with 59 of his 92 pitches going for strikes. The 20-year-old right-hander has been dealing of late, going 4-0 with a 1.79 ERA, 24 hits allowed and a 46-7 strikeout-to-walk ratio in 40 1/3 innings across his past six starts.

• In a rain-shortened contest, No. 67 overall prospect Kolby Allard (Braves' No. 4) tossed a five-inning complete game for Class A Rome. The 19-year-old lefty allowed one earned run on five hits and stuck out nine hitters for the second time in his past three starts. In five outings this month, Allard has pitched to a 1.72 ERA with 37 strikeouts across 31 1/3 innings.

• Speaking of complete games, No. 84 overall prospect Erick Fedde (Nationals' No. 4) recorded the first of his career as Double-A Harrisburg defeated Hartford in game one of a doubleheader, 5-1. The 2014 first-rounder surrendered one earned run on six hits in seven innings, with two walks and eight strikeouts.
• Cubs No. 3 prospectJeimer Candelario extended his hitting streak to 12 games and collected three extra-base hits to help power Triple-A Iowa past Omaha, 6-5. The 22-year-old switch-hitter -- who started at first base in the contest -- finished 3-for-3 with his ninth Triple-A home run, a pair of doubles and three RBIs. During his streak, Candelario is hitting .431 (22-for-51) with 18 RBIs.

• After going 4-for-33 at the plate over his previous 10 games, Twins No. 7 prospect Alex Kirilloff got back on track with a 2-for-4 performance that saw him homer, triple and drive in four runs for Rookie-level Elizabethton. Recently named the Appalachian League player of the year, Kirilloff, 18, is hitting .314 with seven home runs and 33 RBIs through 53 games.
• With his three hitless frames for Class A Short Season Aberdeen, Orioles No. 8 prospect Keegan Akin has now thrown 17 1/3 consecutive scoreless innings. The 2016 second-rounder has allowed just six hits in that span while recording 17 strikeouts against four walks.

"At the beginning of the year, I don't want to say I struggled, but I wasn't myself," Akin told MiLB.com. "It could've been because I had a month off, but now that I'm back in a rhythm ... once I get into a routine, it always works out for me."
• Blue Jays No. 9 prospect Rowdy Tellez's powerful bat proved the difference in Double-A Hampshire's 5-2 win over Reading, as he went 3-for-4 with his 18th home run as well as a double and two RBIs. The 21-year-old first baseman has impressed this season in his first taste of the Double-A level, hitting .300/.388/.511 with 47 extra-base hits and 72 RBIs.

• Rangers No. 12 prospectConnor Sadzeck was sharp for Double-A Frisco as he allowed two earned runs on two hits and set a career high with 10 strikeouts in a loss against San Antonio. It was a step in the right direction for the 24-year-old righty, who was 0-3 with a 10.80 ERA in four outings (three starts) this month heading into Friday's game.
• Red Sox No. 12 prospect Mauricio Dubon turned in his fourth multi-hit performance in his past five games on Friday night when he went 5-for-5 with three doubles and three runs scored for Double-A Portland. The 22-year-old shortstop has collected hits in seven straight at-bats and, overall, is raking at a .352 clip for the Sea Dogs, with 30 extra-base hits and 42 runs scored in 53 games.

• Rockies No. 13 prospect Ryan Castellani fired 7 1/3 strong frames for Class A Advanced Modesto, allowing one earned run on two hits and fanning eight. The 20-year-old righty has pitched to a 1.62 ERA in 44 1/3 innings across his past six starts.
• Nationals No. 15 prospect Juan Soto belted his fifth home as part of a 3-for-5 performance in the Rookie-level Gulf Coast League. The 17-year-old outfielder is pacing all GCL hitters with his .356 average, and he also leads the circuit with 58 hits and 89 total bases.
• Red Sox's No. 15 prospect and 2016 second-rounder C.J. Chatham hit a pair of two-run homers, including a go-ahead shot in the top of ninth inning as Class A Short Season Lowell edged Tri-City, 5-4. He's hit three home runs in 19 games for the Spinners, and they've all come in his past four games.
• Giants No. 23 prospectTy Blach tossed seven scoreless frames, allowing just three hits to record his 14th win for Triple-A Sacramento. The 25-year-old southpaw struck out nine and walked a pair, with 62 of his 87 pitches going for strikes. After struggling in his first tour of the Pacific Coast League last season, Blach has bounced back to post a 3.43 ERA in 162 2/3 innings (26 starts) in 2016.
