Buxton, Santiago making progress after injuries

MINNEAPOLIS -- Twins manager Paul Molitor said center fielder Byron Buxton and left-hander Hector Santiago are making progress with their injuries, with Buxton on track to potentially be activated as soon as next Tuesday, while Santiago threw a bullpen session with no issues on Tuesday.

Buxton, on the 10-day disabled list since Saturday with a left groin strain, has been rehabbing at Target Field, and he is eligible to be activated on Tuesday, when the Twins are in Los Angeles against the Dodgers. They're still working out if he'll need a rehab assignment before rejoining the team.

"He's doing pretty well," Molitor said. "We're just trying to figure out the best plan here for the rest of the week and potentially next Tuesday and how we're going to best use the time to get him ready."

Santiago, on the 10-day DL since July 3 with upper thoracic back pain, threw his first bullpen session since sustaining the injury. He'll throw another one on Friday, and then he'll pitch in a simulated game before heading out on a rehab assignment.

"He felt good," Molitor said. "His command wasn't great, but he was really trying to concentrate on getting extension without feeling any physical problems. But it went well, and he'll throw another one on Friday before he faces some hitters and we get him out."
