Herrmann hopes his versatility will be an asset

MINNEAPOLIS -- Chris Herrmann, who was officially recalled from Triple-A Rochester on Sunday, said he's hoping his versatility will help him stick with the Twins.

Herrmann's primary position is catcher, but he has seen action at both left field and right field in Triple-A this year. He's played 180 career games in left and 17 in right, while catching 231 games over five seasons in the Minors.

"It helps out a lot," Herrmann said. "I talked to [manager Ron] Gardenhire, and he wants me out there playing left field again, and wants me to play some right field. So during batting practice, I'll be working in right field. And last time I was up here, they even had me take grounders at third base. So it's good for them to know that I can play multiple positions."

He fared well in his first stint with the Twins, hitting .462 with a homer, a double and four RBIs in seven games. But he was optioned on June 14, when third baseman Trevor Plouffe was activated from the 15-day disabled list.

So this time around, Herrmann is hoping to remain productive and have a longer stay with the Twins.

"Ultimately, it's their decision, but I'm going to take every chance I get and make the most of it," Herrmann said. "That's what I'm here for."
