Twins get college speedster Granite in 14th

In the 14th round of the First-Year Player Draft, the Twins selected outfielder Zack Granite at No. 410 overall.

A junior out of Seton Hall, Granite led his team with 35 stolen bases in 2013 -- second in the Big East and eighth nationally. Over the season, the 5-foot-9, 185-pound center fielder posted a .990 fielding percentage and a .304 average at the plate. He had 21 multihit games and 30 RBIs.

"He can really run," scouting director Deron Johnson said. "He's a plus runner, not a lot of power, but he's got good bat control. He plays a small man's game. He's a good bunter and he can spray the ball around; he's a gap-type hitter."

Granite earned First-team All Big East honors in 2013 and is the second Pirate to be drafted by the Twins this year -- righty Brian Gilbert was taken in the seventh round.
