Twins' game against Rays cancelled due to rain

Scheduled starter Pelfrey set to pitch in Minor League game on Tuesday

FORT MYERS, Fla. -- The Twins' scheduled Grapefruit League game against the Rays at Hammond Stadium on Monday was cancelled due to rain and will not be rescheduled.

Right-hander Mike Pelfrey was scheduled to pitch for the Twins. He will now pitch in a Minor League game on Tuesday. Pelfrey is still scheduled to start Saturday in Grapefruit League action against the Red Sox, so he'll have a lower pitch count on Tuesday to account for pitching on short rest on Saturday.

"I'll throw tomorrow, but they'll shorten me up," said Pelfrey, who estimated he'll throw 50 pitches on Tuesday. "I'll just come back on short rest. What can you do? You can't change the weather."

Right-hander Kyle Gibson remains the starter for Tuesday's game against the Orioles, and left-hander Scott Diamond is scheduled to pitch in relief. Both are still competing for the final spot in the rotation, but Gibson is considered the favorite.

Twins fans with tickets purchased by mail, phone or Internet can exchange their tickets only at the Hammond Stadium Box Office. Tickets must be exchanged by March 28. If a refund is preferred, fans who have purchased single-game tickets by phone, mail or Internet will receive a refund automatically.
