FORT MYERS, Fla. -- The changes right-hander Kyle Gibson made to his delivery this offseason appear to be working this spring.
Gibson, lined up to be Minnesota's No. 3 starter, continued his impressive run Sunday. The right-hander tossed six scoreless innings against a strong Red Sox lineup in the 7-2 loss, and scattered four hits with four strikeouts to lower his ERA to 1.59 in Grapefruit League play.
"There are still some things I want to work on, like getting more consistent with my changeup, but fastball command has been pretty good," Gibson said. "It's something I'll try to keep going and try to get more and more consistent."

After posting a 5.07 ERA while dealing with back issues last season, Gibson reworked his delivery and has impressed Twins manager Paul Molitor. He's scheduled to throw again on Friday against Triple-A Rochester before starting Minnesota's third game of the year, against the Royals on April 6.

"It's been a nice spring," Molitor said. "A lot of strikes. A nice mix. Unpredictable patterns. He's working ahead. There are a lot of things. I'm sure he's excited to go out there. He's throwing the ball well, and he feels good."
Worth noting
• Twins designated hitter Kennys Vargas, who took a foul ball off his left foot on Friday, was scheduled to try to run on Sunday, but suffered from flu-like symptoms. He's unlikely to make the Opening Day roster.
• Outfielder Robbie Grossman (groin strain) took batting practice on Friday, and could return to the lineup as soon as Wednesday. He hasn't played since March 19.
• Lefty Ryan O'Rourke (forearm) has yet to start his throwing program. He's likely to open the year on the 10-day disabled list.
