Twins option reliever Tonkin to Triple-A

MINNEAPOLIS -- The Twins optioned right-handed reliever Michael Tonkin to Triple-A Rochester after Wednesday's 6-1 win over the White Sox, and they will make a corresponding roster move before Friday's game in Milwaukee.

Tonkin has posted a 5.73 ERA in 16 appearances this year, with 10 strikeouts and five walks in 11 innings. He was most recently recalled on June 12, posting a 6.00 ERA in four relief outings.

Manager Paul Molitor wouldn't say whether Minnesota will bring up another reliever or call up a position player. The Twins have had a 13-man pitching staff since May 22.

"I'm not going to elaborate," Molitor said. "I'm just going to announce what we're going to do on Friday when we get there."
