Twins outright infielder Bernier to Triple-A

MINNEAPOLIS -- The Twins cleared another spot on their 40-man roster on Friday, as they outrighted infielder Doug Bernier to Triple-A Rochester.

Bernier becomes the fifth Twins player to be outrighted to Rochester this week, joining outfielder Clete Thomas and right-handers Josh Roenicke, Cole De Vries and Shairon Martis. The 40-man roster now stands at 35, but doesn't include right-hander Samuel Deduno or outfielder Wilkin Ramirez, both of whom are on the 60-day disabled list.

Bernier, 33, played in 33 games with the Twins in 2013, hitting .226/.339/.283 with three doubles, five RBIs and two stolen bases, and he saw time at shortstop, second base and third base. It was his first time in the Majors since 2008, when he appeared in two games with the Rockies.

Bernier now becomes a six-year Minor League free agent.
