ANAHEIM -- The Twins will take part in the Prostate Cancer Foundation Home Run Challenge that will run from Monday until Sunday, the team announced.
As part of the challenge, the Twins will donate $10,000 for every home run and $1,000 for every strikeout by a pitcher through Father's Day.
The Twins have been participants in the Home Run Challenge for the past 19 years, working together to fund more than $1.4 million in prostate cancer research. The club has contributed $277,000 to the PCF since 2013.
"The Pohlad family and entire Minnesota Twins organization salutes the work of Michael Milken and the PCF," Twins president Dave St. Peter said in a statement. "The PCF leadership and vision has inspired our team to play a small role in helping raise incremental dollars in this ongoing fight to cure this deadly disease. We encourage others in and out of baseball to accept the PCF Home Run Challenge and make a contribution today."
The PCF Home Run Challenge has been a major partnership with Major League Baseball, generating $45 million to fund prostate cancer research since the Challenge was founded in 1997. Among past Twins spokespeople have been former player and current coach Terry Steinbach, as well as former manager Ron Gardenhire.
