Deduno to rehab from surgery under team's guidance

MINNEAPOLIS -- Right-hander Samuel Deduno had his right shoulder successfully scoped on Sept. 18, and is already rehabbing at Target Field.

Deduno, who saw his season end when he was placed on the 15-day disabled list with shoulder soreness on Aug. 30, is expected to continue his rehab at the club's Spring Training complex in Fort Myers, Fla., this offseason.

Twins manager Ron Gardenhire said he was pleased to hear that Deduno will continue his rehab under the guidance of the club's medical staff instead of heading home to the Dominican Republic.

"We like him to go down there and do it, but it was his decision because he could've rehabbed at home," Gardenhire said. "Under our supervision helps, and I don't think he has any problem with that."

Deduno is not scheduled to participate in winter ball in his native Dominican Republic, as the Twins have urged him to take it slow this offseason. But Deduno is expected to be ready in time for Spring Training, as the procedure was only minor and repaired fraying in his rotator cuff and labrum.
