Twins place Sanó on 10-day DL

The Minnesota Twins announced today that they have placed infielder Miguel Sanó on the 10-day disabled list with a left shin stress reaction, retro to August 20.

The Minnesota Twins announced today that they have placed infielder Miguel Sanó on the 10-day disabled list with a left shin stress reaction, retro to August 20. To replace Sanó on the 25-man roster the Twins have recalled infielder Kennys Vargas from Triple-A Rochester. The Twins have also optioned left-handed pitcher Nik Turley to Triple-A Rochester. To replace Turley on the 25-man roster the Twins have selected the contract of right-handed pitcher Tim Melville, who will start the first game of today's doubleheader against the Chicago White Sox.
Sanó has hit .267 (111-for-416) with 15 doubles, 28 home runs and 77 RBI in 111 games for the Twins this season. He was removed from Saturday's game with left shin soreness.
Vargas will be making his fifth stint with the Twins, having hit .243 (43-for-177) with nine doubles, eight home runs and 30 RBI in 51 games. Vargas has hit .253 (45-for-178) with eight doubles and nine home runs in 51 games with Triple-A Rochester this season, including hitting .394 (13-for-33) with two doubles, a home run and four RBI in nine games since being optioned August 9.
Melville, 27, signed with the Twins as a minor league free agent in June and has gone 4-3 with a 2.70 ERA (66.2 IP, 20 ER) in 11 games (10 starts) for the Red Wings this season. Melville will start game one in Chicago today at 4:10 pm (CT) and wear uniform number 58.
Additionally, the Twins have recalled left-handed pitcher Nik Turley as the 26thman for today's doubleheader in Chicago, he is available for both games of the straight doubleheader against the White Sox.
