The Minnesota Twins announced today that they have placed right-handed pitcher Ervin Santana on the 10-day disabled list with reoccurring symptoms related to his original injury to his third finger MCP joint on his right hand. Additionally, the Twins have returned outfielder Robbie Grossman from rehab assignment and have reinstated him from the 10-day disabled list, recalled right-handed pitcher Alan Busenitz and optioned outfielder Johnny Field to Rochester.
Santana, who suffered the injury earlier this season, made five starts for the Twins since returning from the disabled list, going 0-1 with an 8.03 ERA (24.2 IP, 22 ER).
Grossman, who missed the Twins last 12 games with a right hamstring strain, played in three games with the Red Wings, hitting .455 (5-for-11) with a double and three RBI. He has played in 92 games for the Twins this season, hitting .253 (70-for-277) with 17 doubles, four home runs, 34 RBI and a .332 on-base percentage.
Busenitz, who pitched in 11 games over three stints with the Twins this season, recently appeared in seven games for the Red Wings, allowing six runs on nine hits in 8.0 innings pitched with three saves.
Grossman and Busenitz will take the vacated 25-man roster spots of outfielder Johnny Field and Ervin Santana.
