Minneapolis/St. Paul, MN - The Minnesota Twins announced tonight that they will return left-handed pitcher Hector Santiago from his rehab assignment at Triple-A Rochester and reinstate him from the 10-day disabled list. Santiago is scheduled to start tomorrow night at Boston.
Santiago strained his left shoulder June 6 at Seattle and missed 20 games. He made one rehab start for the Red Wings on June 21 pitching 3.0 innings (57 pitches), walking two and striking out two. On the season, Santiago has made 13 appearances (12 starts) going 4-6 with a 5.26 ERA (65.0 IP, 38 ER), 47 strikeouts and 28 walks.
To make room for Santiago on the 25-man roster the Twins have optioned right-handed pitcher Dillon Gee to Triple-A Rochester.
Gee, 31, was signed by the Twins as a minor league free agent June 22 after being designated by the Texas Rangers June 16 and elected free agency June 19. The right-hander made four appearances (1 start) for the Rangers this season posting a 4.15 ERA (13.0 IP, 6 ER) with six walks and 10 strikeouts. Gee has yet to make an appearance for the Twins this season.
