Twins select RHP Leach with No. 37 pick

MINNEAPOLIS -- The Twins added their first pitcher of the 2017 MLB Draft on Monday, selecting high school right-hander Landon Leach with the first pick in the second round at No. 37 overall.

Leach, who pitched for Pickering High School (Ontario, Canada), has a big projectable frame at 6-foot-4 and 205 pounds. He'll touch 94 mph with his fastball and also has a 78-80-mph curveball and 79-81-mph changeup.

• Twins pick 'elite athlete' Lewis with No. 1 overall pick

• Twins select college slugger Rooker at No. 35 overall

Leach often gets compared to fellow Canadian Mike Soroka, who was taken with the No. 28 pick by the Braves in the 2015 Draft. Leach is committed to the University of Texas. The pick holds a slot value of $1,846,100.

The Draft continues on Tuesday with Rounds 3-10. The MLB.com preview show begins at 12:30 p.m. ET, with exclusive coverage beginning at 1 p.m. ET.
