Tigers call up Collins, send Farmer to Triple-A

May 8th, 2016

DETROIT -- Tigers manager Brad Ausmus hinted earlier in the weekend that the Tigers would likely make a roster move to add an outfielder for the upcoming road trip to Washington D.C. and Baltimore, and they did just that after Sunday's 8-3 loss to the Rangers.
Right-handed reliever Buck Farmer was optioned to Triple-A Toledo, and outfielder Tyler Collins will rejoin the Tigers.
Farmer has allowed two earned runs and six hits over 8 1/3 innings in five Major League appearances this year. He also has 10 strikeouts and three walks. He last pitched on May 3 in Cleveland, throwing two shutout innings.
Collins returns to the Tigers after being sent down less than two weeks ago. He's hitting .100 in the Majors this season (2-for-20) with a .100 on-base percentage, and he was in some hot water after an obscene gesture to the Detroit crowd after losing a ball in the lights on April 25.
He provides a left-handed bat and outfield defense for a Tigers team that had only three true outfielders on the roster before this move.[email protected]/[email protected]
