MINNEAPOLIS -- With Triple-A Rochester's season ending on Monday, the Twins made three September callups after their 11-5 loss to the Royals, as right-hander Tyler Duffey, first baseman Kennys Vargas and infielder James Beresford were recalled by the team on Tuesday.
Vargas and Duffey, who will start on Friday against the Indians, are back in the Majors after brief demotions, but it's the first callup for Beresford after playing 1,070 games in the Minors over the last 10 seasons. The Australia native, who can play all four infield positions, hit .269/.330/.312 with 14 doubles, three triples and 35 RBIs in 122 games at Triple-A Rochester this season. He'll have to be added to the 40-man roster, but ByungHo Park is expected to be transferred to the 60-day disabled list to make room for him.
"I'm a big Jimmy fan," Twins manager Paul Molitor said. "He's gone about it the right way. We've seen him a lot in Spring Training the last few years. He's versatile in the infield. It's one of those situations where once in a while somebody needs to get rewarded, including playing well."

Beresford had played the third-most games among active Minor Leaguers without appearing in the Majors, and said it was all worth it to finally get a chance to wear a Major League uniform. He was greeted as his locker by a bouquet of balloons congratulating him on the callup.
"It's pretty special," Beresford said. "I've already heard from a few people in Australia who want me to send [jerseys] back home. I'm just blessed and honored. I've been a Minnesota Twin my whole life over the last 12 years since I signed my contract at 16. You dream of being in this position."
Duffey, meanwhile, was optioned by the Twins on Aug. 25, while Vargas was sent down on Aug. 20. Duffey made two starts since being optioned, posting a 4.20 ERA with 12 strikeouts in 15 innings. Vargas hit .222/.407/.356 with a homer, three doubles and five RBIs in 14 games since going back down to Rochester.
Duffey will rejoin the rotation on Friday, giving lefty Héctor Santiago an extra day of rest. Duffey had a solid showing at Triple-A with a 2.93 ERA in five starts, but has a 6.63 ERA in 22 starts with Minnesota this year.
"I want to take full advantage of it," Duffey said. "It's against Cleveland, which is a good team and one I've seen plenty. So I know the game plan. So now it's about executing."
Vargas, who is expected to mostly see time at designated hitter with occasional starts at first base, hit .233/.361/.424 with 15 homers, 16 doubles and 58 RBIs in 96 games with Rochester. He's actually had more success in the Majors this year, batting .259/.379/.576 with six homers, nine doubles and 13 RBIs in 25 games. But he was in a 2-for-25 slump at the time of his demotion.
