CHICAGO -- The skies were clearing in Syracuse, N.Y., on Monday evening and Tyler Wade had just completed his stretching routine, preparing to re-take the field with his Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre teammates following a 104-minute rain delay. Manager Al Pedrique intercepted Wade, shaking his head.
"He said, 'You can't play. You're going to Chicago,'" Wade said. "I was very excited. I had no idea what was going on."
With second baseman Starlin Castro heading to the 10-day disabled list with a Grade 1 right hamstring strain, the Yankees summoned Wade before Tuesday's 4-3 loss against the White Sox, while also recalling right-hander Tyler Webb. Right-hander Jonathan Holder was optioned to Triple-A.
Ranked as the Yankees' No. 11 prospect by MLBPipeline.com, the 22-year-old Wade made his Major League debut as an eighth-inning pinch-hitter Tuesday, working a full-count walk in his first plate appearance before scoring on Aaron Judge's game-tying single up the middle. Wade stayed in the game as the left fielder and struck out looking in the ninth.

"It's surreal. It's a dream come true," Wade said. "I'm really excited to be here. Just helping the big league team win any way I can; that's always been a goal of mine, to play for the Yankees."
A fourth-round pick in the 2013 Draft, Wade was batting .313/.390/.444 with five homers, 25 RBIs and 24 stolen bases in 71 games for the RailRiders.
Ronald Torreyes started at second base Tuesday, but Girardi said that it is possible that Wade could be in the lineup Thursday, when the Yanks face right-hander James Shields. Wade has played second base, third base, shortstop and all three outfield positions at Triple-A this year.
"It gives us a lot of different options," Girardi said. "I'd like to get him in there as soon as I can, because you hate for a kid to come up here and sit a long time [after being] used to playing every day. So we'll see."
The Yankees are hopeful that Castro will be able to return in the minimum 10 days. Castro sustained the strain running out a third-inning grounder in Monday's 6-5 victory over Chicago. He is batting .313/.348/.486 with 12 homers and 45 RBIs in 73 games, collecting 92 hits in 294 at-bats.

Castro strained his right hamstring last Sept. 17 vs. Boston and missed one week. He said that Monday's injury feels less severe than that one.
"Last year, I felt the pop. This time, I don't feel any pop," Castro said. "I'm going to be concentrating on working hard and be back as soon as I can."

A top-five fantasy second baseman to this point in the season, Castro should be retained in every league on the hope that he will play in a significant portion of the Yankees' remaining games. Deep-league Castro owners can consider tabbing Wade -- who is hitting .313 with 24 swipes in Triple-A this season -- as a replacement middle infielder. Meanwhile, Castro owners in shallow leagues can check waivers for a replacement such as Ian Happ, Whit Merrifield or Brandon Phillips.
Injury report
Designated hitter Matthew Holliday continues to complain of fatigue symptoms as he missed his third consecutive game Tuesday. Girardi said that if the issue is not resolved soon, Holliday could be placed on the 10-day DL and sent back to New York for further testing.
"He says he feels bad," Girardi said. "I said, 'Exactly what does that mean, is that like you're achy, your muscles are sore?' He said, 'No, I just feel like someone zapped me out of all my energy.' That's kind of what I see from him. The blood work has come back fine. We're still trying to figure out what's going on."
Christopher Austin filled in as the Yankees' DH on Tuesday. Girardi said that Austin has been playing through tightness in his right hamstring.
