Work continues in the triangle parcel adjacent to Wrigley Field, which was the former location of the Red and Purple Lots. Throughout the summer, the 1060 Project team has continued foundational and structural work to make way for the Cubs' new clubhouse and office building, as well as an open-air plaza and retail space. In July, the team completed the excavation for the future home of the 30,000-square-foot Cubs' clubhouse and new office building. In total, the team has removed 78,000 cubic yards (109 tons) of dirt from the triangle parcel.
As foundational work in other areas of the triangle parcel continues, the construction team will begin placing support columns for the structure's ceiling deck and steel frame. Once completed, this new area will include a locker room for players and coaches, a strength and conditioning center, training and hydrotherapy areas, a media center, team offices and a player lounge. The structural frame of the clubhouse is expected to be completed by mid November, and the completed clubhouse is on track to be ready by Opening Day 2016.
The six-story office building, which will house the Cubs' administrative offices and a ground-floor retail space, is progressing well as the construction team works to install the building's support columns. The building is already taking shape, as portions of the steel structure are now in place. The office building is expected to be completed by late 2016.
