Replay overturns call, confirms long foul ball
Campana ruled out on eighth-inning grounder; Hanley nearly hits homer
LOS ANGELES -- Dodgers manager Don Mattingly successfully challenged a safe call in the top of the eighth inning of Sunday's game with the D-backs.
With no outs and none on, Arizona's Tony Campana grounded to second baseman Dee Gordon, whose throw to first baseman Adrian Gonzalez was originally ruled late. The umpires overturned the call after the review, calling Campana out.
It was the second review of the game. The first was initiated by the umpires. With one out in the first inning, umpires reviewed and confirmed a foul call off the bat of Hanley Ramirez.
The Dodgers shortstop hit a ball deep to left field, near the foul pole. Mattingly came out to argue whether or not the ball was in fact a home run, but because the review was the decision of the umpires, the Dodgers saved their challenge for later use.
