Dodgers Hall of Fame broadcaster Vin Scully, who is heading into his 67th season calling the team's games in a career that began in the days of the Brooklyn Dodgers, will be the first recipient of the Los Angeles Sports Council's Lifetime Achievement Award during the 11th annual L.A. Sports Awards on Feb. 25 at the Beverly Hills Hilton.
"I can't think of a person more deserving of this recognition," Sports Council president David Simon said in a news release. "Even more remarkable than his longevity is the consistently high quality and integrity his announcing has represented over the years."
The annual awards show celebrates the greatest moments of the year in sports in the Los Angeles/Orange County area. Fox Sports West/Prime Ticket will televise the event. Air dates are to be determined.
Scully, who has broadcast Dodgers games longer than any announcer has called any team's games, was inducted into the broadcaster's wing of the Baseball Hall of Fame as winner of the Ford C. Frick Award in 1982, and he has broadcast 25 World Series, three perfect games and 19 no-hitters.
