ST. PETERSBURG -- Royals All-Star closer Wade Davis, on the disabled list because of a strained flexor muscle in his right forearm, said he may have rushed his return from his previous stint on the DL in early in July.
Davis had been placed on the disabled list retroactive to July 1 with a right forearm strain and, after rest and rehab, returned on the first day he was eligible on July 16.
"I may have rushed it," Davis said. "I may have needed another bullpen or something like that. This time I'll be careful."
Davis left this road trip and flew back to Kansas City for an MRI on Sunday after experiencing more forearm pain last week. Davis was put on the disabled list again, retroactive to July 27, after that MRI revealed a strain to the flexor muscle.
But the MRI also showed no damage to the elbow ligaments, and Davis said the fact there were no structural issues was a relief.
"They compared this MRI to the previous MRIs [of his elbow] and it didn't show anything different," Davis said.
For now, Davis simply is receiving treatment on the flexor muscle.
"I don't know what the schedule is," he said, "but I won't pick up a baseball for a couple of days at least, I would think."
