Span out with sore abdominal muscle
NEW YORK -- Nationals center fielder Denard Span had Friday off because of a sore abdominal muscle. Span said he is still sore and is not sure if he will play Saturday against the Mets.
"We'll see how tomorrow feels. Today is a little sore," Span said. "I haven't talked to the skipper [Matt Williams] or the training staff about tomorrow. I don't want to go out on a limb and say I'm missing tomorrow as well."
Span did not see a doctor, but he was able to get treatment after leaving Thursday's game in the sixth inning.
Span started to feel pain in the area -- the rectus abdominis muscle -- where he had surgery in early March. He ended up going 0-for-2 with a run scored and a walk during the Nationals' 8-2 victory over New York.
Span is still not sure if he had a setback. Since coming off the disabled list on April 19, Span has been a hot hitter, going 13-for-43 (.302) with two home runs and seven RBIs.
