Nats recall den Dekker as 26th man

WASHINGTON -- The Nationals recalled outfielder Matt den Dekker from Triple-A Syracuse after their 2-0 win over the Blue Jays in Game 1 of Tuesday's doubleheader. den Dekker will serve as the club's 26th man for the nightcap, in accordance with MLB rules.

This is the second stint in Washington for den Dekker, whom the Nats acquired from the Mets for left-handed reliever Jerry Blevins on March 30. The 27-year-old made the Nationals' Opening Day roster, appearing in four games and going 0-for-2 at the plate before being optioned to Syracuse.

A left-handed hitter who can play all three outfield spots, den Dekker was batting .230/.299/.289 in 41 games at Triple-A, with one home run, 16 RBIs and seven stolen bases.

The Nats were short an outfielder for Game 1, with Denard Span resting his sore right knee. Afterward, manager Matt Williams said he didn't yet know Span's status for Game 2.
