Werth out of lineup with right foot infection

KANSAS CITY -- Nationals outfielder Jayson Werth was not in Saturday night's lineup because of an infected right foot. The injury was the reason he was the designated hitter in Friday's 11-10 victory over the Royals.

Werth has been having problems with the foot since the final game of the four-game series against the Cubs.

"Today, it's just too much. It's really sore. I have an infection," Werth said. "I'm taking some antibiotics."

Werth doesn't know when he will be back in the lineup. He thought the foot would be better on Saturday. In fact, Werth said the foot would have to get better in order to pinch-hit in Saturday's game.
