Jeff Samardzija gets the ball for the first-place Giants in his Yankee Stadium debut this afternoon in the rubber game of an Interleague series against the Yankees.
Samardzija and the Giants are trying to maintain their lead in the National League West over the Dodgers, who play the Cardinals tonight in St. Louis in the weekend's final game.
Today's full schedule of Major League games also features starts from Steven Matz of the Mets, Jon Lester of the Cubs, Corey Kluber of the Indians and Tim Lincecum of the Angels. Meanwhile, baseball's top prospect, Lucas Giolito, is scheduled to start for the Nationals.

Shark in the Bronx: SF@NYY, 1:05 p.m.
Samardzija takes the Yankee Stadium mound for the first time in his career this afternoon in the series finale against the Yankees. Samardzija is starting on six days' rest, and he's posted a 5.40 ERA in three prior outings this season with at least six days between starts.
The Giants snapped a six-game losing skid Saturday with a 2-1 win in 12 innings. San Francisco leads the Dodgers by four games in the NL West.
Nathan Eovaldi make his second straight start for the Yankees following three appearances out of the bullpen. He tossed 5 1/3 innings of one-run ball to beat the Orioles in his last outing.
Stat that matters: Yankees outfielder Carlos Beltrán is 5-for-16 (.313) lifetime against Samardzija with one double, one home run and three walks.

Matz goes for Mets: NYM@MIA, 1:10 p.m.
All eyes will be on Matz when he takes the mound in the rubber game against the Marlins. Matz is pitching through bone spurs in his elbow and is 0-5 with a 4.73 ERA over his last nine starts. He began the year 7-1 with a 2.36 ERA in his first eight starts. Both Matz and the Mets insist he is healthy enough to continue pitching.
José Ureña makes his second start of the year for the Marlins, who lead the Mets by 1 1/2 games for the second NL Wild Card spot. Urena tossed 5 2/3 innings of one-run ball against the Phillies in his last outing.
Stat that matters: Marlins outfielder Ichiro Suzuki is sitting on 2,996 career hits. He's seeking to become only the 30th player to record 3,000 hits in the Majors.

O's go for sweep of Tribe: CLE@BAL, 1:35 p.m.
The Indians turn to Kluber as they look to avoid a sweep at the hands of the Orioles. In a matchup of division-leaders, the winner of this game will have the best record in the American League.
Kluber is 3-1 with a 2.04 ERA in his past five starts. He worked seven shutout innings with eight strikeouts against the Royals in his last outing.
Vance Worley makes his fourth start of the year for the O's. Primarily a long reliever this season, Worley went 4 1/3 innings in his last start. He's faced the Indians once this year, allowing two runs (one earned) in 4 1/3 innings of relief on May 28.
Stat that matters: Orioles slugger Mark Trumbo hit his 30th homer of the season Saturday, the most in MLB, and he's 9-for-20 (.450) with three homers and 10 RBIs in five games against the Indians this year.

Top prospect toes rubber: SD@WSH, 1:35 p.m.
Giolito, the No. 1 prospect in baseball according to MLBPipeline.com, seeks his first win in his third career start for the Nats. Giolito had two no-decisions against the Mets, going four innings in both starts, though one was shortened by rain.
Christian Friedrich starts for the Padres. The left-hander has a 12.00 ERA in five career appearances against the Nationals, his highest career mark against any NL club. He faced the Nats on June 17, allowing six runs on nine hits in six innings.
Stat that matters: Nationals outfielder Jayson Werth has reached base in 27 consecutive games, the third longest streak of his career and the longest active streak in MLB.

NL contenders clash: LAD@STL, 8:08 p.m.
Scott Kazmir starts for the Dodgers in the rubber game against the Cardinals, who trail Los Angeles by two games for the top NL Wild Card spot. The Cards will promote Mike Mayers from Triple-A to make his big league debut in a spot start.
The Dodgers are 8-3 in Kazmir's last 11 starts, during which he's posted a 3.84 ERA. The southpaw has won his last six decisions, a streak that started May 14 against the Cardinals, when Kazmir went 8 2/3 innings and allowed three runs (two earned) on five hits.
Mayers, who will have roughly 35 family members at the game, collected a 2.94 ERA over nine starts with Triple-A Memphis this year.
Stat that matters: Cardinals slugger Matt Holliday is 4-for-14 (.308) lifetime against Kazmir, with two solo homers.
