A daytime matchup between the Nationals' Max Scherzer and the Marlins' Dan Straily highlights an intriguing slate of games today, streaming live on MLB.TV.
Scherzer has been sensational all season as he vies for his second straight National League Cy Young Award. The 32-year-old has been even better of late, racking up double-digit strikeouts in seven of his past nine starts.
Straily has pitched well in his first season with Miami, going 5-4 with a 3.58 ERA through his first 14 starts with the club. The 28-year-old is coming off a win over the Braves in which he held Atlanta scoreless over 6 1/3 innings, with eight strikeouts.
Oddly enough, Scherzer and Straily were tied for seventh-most home runs allowed in the Majors last season among all pitchers, with 31. While Straily has allowed just three homers to current Nationals, Scherzer has had greater struggles with the long ball against the Marlins. Ten different Miami hitters have taken the Nats ace deep in his career.
The two right-handers will try to keep the ball in play as they square off at 12:10 p.m. ET at Marlins Park in Miami.

Berry Berry good, Berrios: CWS@MIN, 8:10 p.m.
Jose Berrios, the Twins' first-round pick in the 2012 Draft, is living up to the hype in his second Major League season. After going 3-7 with an 8.02 ERA in 14 starts in 2016, the 23-year-old is 6-1 with a 2.74 ERA in seven starts this season.
Berrios has earned victories in three consecutive outings and is coming off an eight-inning gem in which he allowed two runs on five hits and a walk, with six strikeouts, against the Mariners.
The White Sox counter with left-hander David Holmberg, who excelled as a reliever for Chicago early in the season before being thrust into the rotation. He is 1-0 with a 3.71 ERA in four starts after recording an 0.87 ERA in 10 1/3 frames out of the club's bullpen to begin the year.

Wild, wild West: ARI@COL, 8:40 p.m.
Two of the NL's best teams continue to duel it out in Colorado when the D-backs take on the Rockies for the second meeting of this week's three-game series.
Taijuan Walker gets the ball for Arizona on the heels of back-to-back victories while watching his ERA drop to 3.32. Colorado's Jeff Hoffman, who is 4-0 with a 2.25 ERA in six games (five starts) in 2017, is set to take the mound on the other side.

Clash at the Coliseum: HOU@OAK, 10:05 p.m.

Though A's left-hander Sean Manaea saw his string of five straight victories come to an end with a no-decision in his last outing against the Yankees, Oakland still pulled out the 7-6 win. The 25-year-old Manaea will look to get back in the win column tonight, but it won't be easy with the slugging Astros in town.
Also making it tough for Manaea is that Houston right-hander Mike Fiers comes into his 14th start of the season pitching as well as he has all year. The 32-year-old gave up just one earned run in 14 1/3 innings across his previous two starts.

Sleepless in Seattle: DET@SEA, 10:10 p.m.
Fans on both coasts will find it worthwhile to stay up to watch 2011 American League Cy Young Award Winner and Most Valuable Player Justin Verlander take the mound opposite promising Mariners left-hander James Paxton.
Verlander seeks his first win in a month despite the Tigers having won two of his last three starts. He's coming off one of his better outings of the season, in which he allowed two runs over seven innings against the Rays.
Paxton began the season with a 5-0 record, but has lost back-to-back starts to the Rangers and Blue Jays. The 28-year-old is looking to return to form after giving up a combined 11 earned runs in 7 2/3 frames in his last two outings.
