When it comes to wins, Jones central to O's success

BOSTON -- Adam Jones, who went 4-for-5 with a homer and five RBIs in Sunday's 8-3 win over Boston, has been at the center of nearly every Orioles victory.

"Adam welcomes the responsibility of being a guy that his teammates and his organization counts on," said manager Buck Showalter of his star, who is batting .457 on the season. "I don't think that changes ever for him game to game. That's a real tribute to him. He wants to be there, and he expects the people around him to play the game right, too."

After a first-inning homer off Red Sox starter Rick Porcello, Jones had a bases-clearing double in the sixth. Over a nine-game hitting streak, he's batting .571 with five homers, 11 runs scored and 14 RBIs.

"When it's going good, try to do what you're doing. When it's going bad, try to figure out what you ain't doing good," Jones said. "So, I'm just trying to get a good fastball to hit."

Jones said he's trying to lay off of offspeed pitches -- especially earlier in the count -- and is waiting for fastballs.

"When he's getting a pitch, he's not missing it," Showalter said. "If you go back through some of those pitches, they're not all strikes. Keep that in mind when someone's talking about [being] a little too aggressive out of the zone. That's who he is."
