Team to watch
Triple-A Nashville's roster, once fully healthy, should house more than one-third of the A's Top 30 prospects. Top 100 prospects Franklin Barreto (No. 50 overall) and Matt Chapman (No. 97) are slated for shortstop and third base, respectively, giving the Sounds what could be one of the better left sides of the infield in the Minors. Matt Olson, Bruce Maxwell, Renato Nunez and Chad Pinder all will return to Nashville after debuting with Oakland late last season.

New faces
Flame-thrower Frankie Montas, injured at the time he was acquired from the Dodgers at last year's Trade Deadline, is set to make his organizational debut as a big leaguer after claiming a spot in the A's Opening Day bullpen. Right-hander Paul Blackburn came over from the Mariners in the Danny Valencia trade, and he seems poised to join Oakland's rotation at some point in 2017. Cuban right-hander Norge Ruiz, whom the A's had hoped would move quickly after he signed for $2 million in December, has yet to arrive in the states due to an issue with his visa.
On the shelf
Yairo Munoz will begin his second straight season on the disabled list -- this time with a hamstring injury -- but is expected to report to Midland once fully healthy. Joe Wendle suffered a shoulder injury early in March that sidelined him for much of Major League camp. He was placed on the disabled list Sunday and will rehab in extended spring training before reporting to Triple-A Nashville. Jaycob Brugman, fresh off of an impressive showing in big league camp, also will begin the season on Nashville's disabled list with an undisclosed injury.
