White Sox acquire left-hander Dan Jennings from Miami in exchange for right-hander Andre Rienzo

The Chicago White Sox have acquired left-handed reliever Dan Jennings from the Miami Marlins in exchange for right-hander Andre Rienzo.

Jennings, 27, went 0-2 with a 1.34 ERA (6 ER/40.1 IP), 38 strikeouts and three holds over 47 relief appearances with Miami in 2014. Thirty-eight of his 47 appearances were scoreless and he surrendered three home runs, including just one over his final 40 outings. Jennings did not allow an earned run over 19 consecutive appearances (17.2 IP) from April 20-July 4 and 13 straight games (9.2 IP) from July 19-September 11.

"We are pleased to add a pitcher like Dan to our restructured bullpen," said Rick Hahn, White Sox senior vice president/general manager. "He provides our bullpen with more depth and gives Robin another viable left-handed option."

Jennings, 6-foot-3 and 210 pounds, has gone 3-6 with a 2.43 ERA (27 ER/100.0 IP), 84 strikeouts, six holds and just six home runs allowed in 116 career appearances (all in relief) with the Marlins from 2012-14. Among left-handed relievers who have appeared in at least 100 total games since 2012, Jennings ranks fourth in ERA behind Eric O'Flaherty (1.98), Aroldis Chapman (2.00) and Tony Watson (2.36).

A native of Berkeley, Calif., Jennings went 16-17 with a 3.13 ERA (112 ER/322.0 IP), 322 strikeouts, 13 saves and a 0.27 home run per 9.0 IP mark (10 homers allowed) over 210 appearances (17 starts) in the Marlins minor-league system from 2008-14. Jennings originally was selected by Miami out of the University of Nebraska in the ninth round of the 2008 First-Year Player Draft.

Rienzo, 26, went 4-5 with a 6.82 ERA (49 ER/64.2 IP) over 18 games (11 starts) with the White Sox last season. He made his major-league debut with Chicago in 2013, making 10 starts. Rienzo has gone 38-30 with a 3.51 ERA (230 ER/590.1 IP) and 627 strikeouts in 121 games (106 starts) over eight seasons in the Sox minor-league system (2007-14).
