White Sox acquire pitcher Tommy Kahnle from Colorado

The Chicago White Sox have acquired right-handed pitcher Tommy Kahnle ("CAIN-lee") from the Colorado Rockies in exchange for minor-league right-hander Yency Almonte.

Kahnle, 26, went 0-1 with a 4.86 ERA (18 ER/33.1 IP), two saves, three holds and 39 strikeouts with Colorado in 2015, averaging 10.5 strikeouts per 9.0 IP while limiting right-handers to a .203 (15-74) average. The 6-foot-1, 230-pound Kahnle also made 21 relief appearances with Albuquerque, going 1-3 with a 4.67 ERA (14 ER/27.0 IP), six saves and 28 strikeouts.

Kahnle, a native of Latham, N.Y., has gone 2-2 with a 4.41 ERA (50 ER/102.0 IP) and 102 strikeouts in 90 relief appearances over two major-league seasons with the Rockies (2014-15). He has averaged 9.0 strikeouts per 9.0 IP and limited opponents to a .220 (82-374) average.

Kahnle made his major-league debut with Colorado in 2014, going 2-1 with a 4.19 ERA (32 ER/68.2 IP), eight holds, a .206 (51-206) opponents average and 63 strikeouts over 54 relief appearances. His 54 appearances ranked fifth among National League rookies.

Kahnle was selected by Colorado from the Yankees in the 2013 Rule 5 Draft after originally being selected by New York-AL in the fifth round of the 2010 draft.

Almonte, 21, made a combined 24 appearances (23 starts) between Class A Kannapolis and Class A Winston-Salem last season, going 11-7 with a 3.41 ERA (52 ER/137.1 IP) and 110 strikeouts. He was acquired from the Angels on February 4, 2015 as the player to be named later for infielder Gordon Beckham (original trade on August 21, 2014).

Following the move, the White Sox 40-man roster increases to 37.
