CHICAGO -- It has been quite a year for Brad Goldberg. The 10th-round selection in the 2013 Draft posted a 2.70 ERA with 10 saves for the White Sox Triple-A affiliate in Charlotte and Double-A club in Birmingham in '16, finding a self-described comfortable fit within the organization. Goldberg, 26, also tallied two saves for Team Israel, helping achieve its first qualification for the '17 World Baseball Classic.
On Friday, Goldberg -- along with outfielders Adam Engel and Jacob May -- were added to the 40-man roster to be protected from the Rule 5 Draft, which takes place Dec. 8 on the final day of the Winter Meetings. Engel is ranked as the White Sox No. 6 prospect, per MLBPipeline.com, and May is 12th.
All eligible players are anyone not on the 40-man roster who signed in 2012 at 18 years or younger, or in '13 at 19 years or older. Four of the White Sox top 30 prospects are on this list. They are lefty Jordan Guerrero (10), outfielder Courtney Hawkins (14), righty Luis Martinez (25) and first baseman/outfielder Nicky Delmonico (27).
The White Sox outrighted right-hander Brandon Brennan to Charlotte to clear a spot on the roster.

Goldberg
Goldberg has reached the point where he can contribute out of Chicago's bullpen, and he would have a shot at breaking camp with the team depending on the club's offseason direction.
Engel
Engel, 24, is a top-notch defensive outfielder who has amassed 109 stolen bases over the past two seasons at three Minor League levels.

May
May, 24, holds a somewhat similar profile to Engel, with the switch-hitter being on the Major League map last season before an oblique injury slowed his campaign. May finished with 19 stolen bases for Charlotte after totaling 75 in the previous two seasons.
