White Sox and Cubs honor Chicago Public School employees
In Recognition of 82 Percent On-Track Graduation Rate, Teams Will Offer Complimentary Lower Level Tickets to Select Games for all CPS Teachers and Staff
CHICAGO - Chicago's two baseball teams, the Cubs and White Sox, are honoring employees from the Chicago Public Schools with a complimentary ticket offer in recognition of the dramatic increase in the on-track high school graduation rate to 82 percent of this year's freshmen class.
Chicago Public School employees can pick up a ticket to one of four select games beginning Monday, May 12 at each team's respective ticket office. CPS employees will be required to show their employee identification in order to claim the tickets, and the deadline to redeem is Friday, June 6.
The two Cubs games available to CPS employees are Monday, June 23 (vs. Reds, 7:05 p.m.) and Tuesday, June 24 (vs. Reds, 7:05 p.m.), while the White Sox are offering complimentary tickets to the games on Monday, June 30 (vs. Angels, 7:10 p.m.) and Tuesday, July 1 (vs. Angels, 7:10 p.m.).
"Our teachers and academic staff do amazing work every day and their dedication and hard work is reflected in our students' outstanding academic achievements, and in ways that cannot be measured, like when a student discovers a hidden talent or when a class of students decide to make college the expectation, not the exception," said Mayor Rahm Emanuel. "These tickets are a small token to show our collective, deep gratitude for all of the teachers who have answered the call to maximize our children's potential and train our City's future leaders."
CPS employees choosing to attend one of the White Sox games should visit the U.S. Cellular Field Ticket Office (Monday-Friday 10 a.m.-5 p.m. or Saturday-Sunday 10 a.m.-4 p.m. on non-game days). Those choosing to attend one of the Cubs game can pick up their ticket at the Wrigley Field box office (Monday-Friday 8 a.m.-6 p.m. or Saturday-Sunday 9 a.m.-4p.m.)
Each CPS employee is eligible for one ticket to one of the four games. School employees also are encouraged to pick up tickets early, as the offer is subject to availability.
"While our two teams and fans are rivals in the ballpark, as Chicagoans we all agree that the increase in the graduation rate is a tremendous accomplishment for our city and a testament to the work of teachers and staff at all Chicago Public Schools," said White Sox chairman Jerry Reinsdorf. "This is a small gesture of gratitude for those who guide and educate the students of Chicago."
