White Sox announce 2016 Draft signings
The Chicago White Sox have agreed to terms with nine of their Top 10 selections from the 2016 First-Year Player Draft, including one of their two first-round picks, right-handed pitcher Zack Burdi (26th overall).
CHICAGO - The Chicago White Sox have agreed to terms with nine of their Top 10 selections from the 2016 First-Year Player Draft, including one of their two first-round picks, right-handed pitcher Zack Burdi (26th overall).
Burdi, 21, went 1-3 with a 3.30 ERA (11 ER/30.0 IP), 47 strikeouts and 11 saves over 27 appearances with the University of Louisville. He helped lead the Cardinals, who finished atop the Atlantic Coast Conference, to a 50-12 overall record and a 22-8 record in the ACC.
The White Sox other first-round selection, catcher Zack Collins (10th overall) from the University of Miami (Fla.), is currently participating in the College World Series. The Hurricanes begin the opening round tonight against the University of Arizona with first pitch scheduled for 7:00 p.m. CT. The game will be televised on ESPN2.
Advance Rookie Great Falls opened their season yesterday while the Arizona Rookie League White Sox look to defend their 2015 Arizona League championship beginning June 20.
