White Sox announce scouting department promotions

The Chicago White Sox have promoted Nick Hostetler to director of amateur scouting and Doug Laumann to senior advisor to scouting operations.

Hostetler, 37, replaces Laumann, who had served in that capacity since November 2007. Hostetler worked as an area scout with the White Sox (2002-04) and Atlanta Braves (2005-07) and as the Sox East Coast Crosschecker from 2008-11 before being promoted to assistant scouting director in 2012.

"As an organization, we are incredibly fortunate to have someone with Nick's qualifications prepared to step right into the role of director of amateur scouting with this promotion," said Rick Hahn, White Sox senior vice president/general manager. "His ability to scout and judge talent are well respected within the game, and Nick has been successful in every scouting role he has experienced during his career.

"We also are excited to retain Doug's wealth of experience within our scouting department," Hahn said. "Doug will continue to be incredibly valuable to all of our scouts as we use his expertise across a variety of scouting needs."

Among the players Hostetler has scouted during his second stint with the club include right-handed pitcher Daniel Hudson (2008), infielder Gordon Beckham (2008), left-hander Chris Sale (2010) and infielder Micah Johnson (2012).

"I'm extremely excited and grateful for this opportunity," said Hostetler, a native of Sterling, Ohio, who resides in Hebron, Ky. "With the emphasis the organization has placed on player development, I'm really looking forward to the challenge of building on that foundation in the years to come."

Laumann, 58, has spent the last eight seasons as the White Sox director of amateur scouting after being named to the position in August 2007. During his tenure, the Sox used first-round picks to select Beckham (2008), Sale (2010) and left-hander Carlos Rodon (2014).

Laumann joined the Sox in 1990, working as an area scout before serving as supervisor from 1993-96. He was national crosschecker from 1997-2000, director of scouting from November 2000-2003 and a special assignment scout from 2004-07.
