Prior to tonight's game vs. Cleveland, the Chicago White Sox reinstated infielder Yoán Moncada from the 10-day disabled list, purchased the contract of left-handed pitcher Jace Fry from Class AA Birmingham and requested waivers on left-hander Derek Holland for the purpose of granting his unconditional release.
Moncada, 22, was placed on the disabled list on August 25 with a bone contusion of his right shin. He has not played in a game since August 24 vs. Minnesota. Moncada is hitting .188 (19-101) with six doubles, one triple, three home runs, 11 RBI and 13 runs scored over 30 games this season, his first with the White Sox after being acquired from Boston in a five-player trade on December 6, 2016. 
Fry, 24, spent the entire season with Birmingham, going 2-1 with a 2.78 ERA (14 ER/45.1 IP), three saves, 52 strikeouts, a .217 opponents average (36-166) and just one home run allowed over 33 relief appearances. He limited left-handers to a .197 average (12-61) and righties to a .229 mark (24-105). A native of Portland, Ore., Fry recorded a 0.64 ERA (1 ER/19.2 IP) with 21 strikeouts and just seven hits allowed over his final 14 appearances from July 10-September 2.
The 6-foot-1, 205-pound Fry missed the entire 2016 season and most of the 2015 season following Tommy John surgery. He is 4-9 with a 3.63 ERA (38 ER/106.2 IP), 101 strikeouts and three saves in 50 career appearances (10 starts) over four seasons in the White Sox system. Fry originally was selected by the Sox in the third round of the June 2014 First-Year Player Draft out of Oregon State University.
Fry has no major-league experience and will wear uniform No. 71. He will be the fourth White Sox to wear No. 71, following Scott Linebrink (2008-10), Mario Valdez (1997) and Jose Munoz (1996).
Holland, 30, went 7-14 with a 6.20 ERA (93 ER/135.0 IP) and 104 strikeouts over 29 appearances (26 starts) this season, his first with the White Sox after signing as a free agent on December 14, 2016.
The White Sox 40-man roster remains at 38.
