White Sox announce upcoming homestand events

This homestand welcomes the return of fan-favorite Super Hero Night as well as Fireworks, presented by Mazda, on Friday, August 19; Elvis Night and Fireworks on Friday, August 26; and Star Wars Night.

The Chicago White Sox have announced promotional highlights, giveaways and ceremonial first pitches for the upcoming homestand vs. the Athletics, Phillies and Mariners. 
This homestand welcomes the return of fan-favorite Super Hero Night as well as Fireworks, presented by Mazda, on Friday, August 19; Elvis Night and Fireworks on Friday, August 26; and Star Wars Night as well as Fireworks, presented by Magellan Corporation, on Saturday, August 27. The first-ever Halfway to Mardi Gras theme night will take place on Tuesday, August 23.
Must-have giveaways this homestand include White Sox socks on Saturday, August 20; a four-star Chicago-themed free T-shirt, presented by UL, on Thursday, August 25; and a Southpaw Star Wars bobblehead on Saturday, August 27.

Super Hero Night will return for its second consecutive year at the ballpark on Friday, August 19. Fans are encouraged to dress in their favorite super hero attire. In-park entertainment will include a Party Shop in Section 159, super hero-themed graphics and music throughout the game as well as special photo opportunities on the concourse with characters from Wizard World Comic Con, like Iron Man, Deadpool, Batman and Robin, Supergirl and Storm. The exclusive Brett Lawrie Super Hero bobbleheads, which were available for the first 1,000 fans to purchase tickets at a special link, are sold out. Actor Lou Ferrigno will throw out a ceremonial first pitch. The 1973 International Federation of Body Building and Fitness "Mr. America" and "Mr. Universe" was cast as the Incredible Hulk in 1978 and starred in the television series until 1981. His subsequent films included "Hercules," "Sinbad of the Seven Seas" and "Cage." Ferrigno's most recent credits include guest appearances on "The King of Queens," "Hulk," "The Incredible Hulk," "I Love You, Man," "The Avengers" and "Celebrity Apprentice: Season 5."

When Sox ace Chris Sale starts, fans with tickets in these sections receive a "K Zone For Sale" T-shirt and strikeout card, which can be picked up at the #SoxSocial Lounge before the end of the first inning. Country artist and songwriter Elizabeth Lyons will perform a pregame Rock the Sox acoustic set. Following the success of her Billboard-charting debut EP, Lyons released her sophomore album, "I've Never," in February. She has sold over 75,000 records and opened for well-known country artists Luke Bryan, Kenny Chesney, Sam Hunt and Blake Shelton.
 
Mykalai Kontilai, founder of Collectors Café, will display the original minor-league and major-league contracts signed by Jackie Robinson with the 1945 Montreal Royals and 1947 Brooklyn Dodgers on the ballpark's outfield concourse as part of the Collectors Café Freedom Tour. Kontilai purchased the 1947 documents that broke the color barrier in Major League Baseball in 2013. Robinson was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1962 and his No. 42 was retired by Major League Baseball in 1997. Kontilai also will throw out a ceremonial first pitch before the game.

The first 500 fans to purchase Selfie and Catch 'Em Sunday tickets will have the opportunity to enter the ballpark early for a "selfie" photo session with select White Sox team members and use the Pokémon Go app to catch characters from the game inside U.S. Cellular Field. Each ticket includes access to the event as well as a Lower Box ticket for the game. Fans also will be able to create their own Pokéball near Section 159 during the game. The Chicago White Sox Reviving Baseball in Inner Cities (RBI) team will be honored in a pregame ceremony as the 2016 RBI World Series champions of the Junior Baseball Division. Their victory marked the first ever RBI World Series championship victory for Chicago in the 24-year history of the tournament. The RBI World Series is the international baseball and softball championship tournament of the RBI program, the Major League Baseball youth initiative designed to provide young people from underserved and diverse communities with the opportunity to play baseball and softball, encourage academic success and teach the value of teamwork and other important life lessons.
 
The Pat McGee Band will perform a pregame Rock the Sox performance, the National Anthem and God Bless America. They have performed for President Clinton, sold out venues across the country and shared the stage with the Allman Brothers, Counting Crows, Fleetwood Mac, James Taylor and The Who. McGee also has performed for the USO in Greenland and for troops serving in the Middle East and Africa. Most recently, their self-titled album debuted in May with the hits "Bad Idea" and "Jack's Song."
 
Coca-Cola Family Sunday offers tickets as low as $5 in the Upper Level and $15 in the Lower Level with $10 parking. This weekend's entertainment includes children's running the bases postgame (weather permitting), face painters, balloonists and a caricature artist. The White Sox will celebrate Halfway to Mardi Gras on Tuesday, August 23. The first-ever Mardi Gras theme night at U.S. Cellular Field will feature various activities throughout the night, including a pregame parade led by members of the King Prep High School marching band, photo opportunities near Section 159 as well as a juggling jester, a stilt walker and a face painter on the concourse. Fans can pick up various items including Mardi Gras beads, feather masks and other party wear at the Mardi Gras Party Shop in Section 159. Special food and drink items will be available for fans, including a Cajun Chicken Sandwich and a Halfway to Mardi Gras Hurricane in the XFINITY Zone. The Chicago White Sox invite fans to celebrate Blackhawks Night at the ballpark. Specially priced tickets will be available to all Chicago Blackhawks season ticket holders, group leaders, employees and fans. Fans that purchase tickets atwhitesox.com/Blackhawks will have the opportunity to enter the ballpark early to watch White Sox batting practice. In addition, the first 1,000 tickets purchased through the special link will include a voucher for a White Sox-Blackhawks scarf.
 
The Ides of March will perform the National Anthem. The band was founded by Jim Peterik in the mid-1960s in Chicago as a teen band strong on original material and British pop harmonies. The band released five singles between 1966 and 1967, including the local hit "You Wouldn't Listen." The song reached No. 7 in Chicago and No. 42 on the Billboard Charts in the spring of 1966. In 1970, the band released "Vehicle," which became the fastest-selling single in Warner Brothers' history at the time. After Peterik's stint as a producer and songwriter, the group re-formed in 1993 to record an album of new material and recuts of hits, continuing to tour ever since.

Members of both the Chicago Police and Fire Departments will be honored in pregame ceremonies. The first 10,000 fans who enter the ballpark will receive a free Chicago-themed T-shirt. The White Sox offer fans a chance to own their very own pair of White Sox Zubaz pants at Zubazpalooza. These pants feature a zebra-style print with the White Sox logo near a pocket. The White Sox will celebrate Elvis Night on Friday, August 26. Entertainment includes performances by Elvis tribute artist Brandon Bennett, jumps by the Frog-X parachute team, an Elvis Party Shop in Section 159, a postgame showgirl performance by Mystique Productions and fireworks set to the King's greatest hits. Photo opportunities are available with a life-size Elvis statue near Section 159 as well as an Elvis shrine on the 100-level concourse behind home plate. Star Wars graphics and music will be included throughout the game, with various characters from the series roaming the concourse. The first 10,000 fans to arrive at the ballpark will receive a limited-edition Southpaw Star Wars bobblehead. The XFINITY Zone will offer fans a special sandwich inspired by Chewbacca. The White Sox also will hold a #SoxSocial Night on Saturday, August 27. The Clear Ridge Baseball team will be honored in a pregame ceremony as the 2016 Senior League World Series champions. The 16 players, many from the South suburb of Garfield Ridge, won the title vs. Australia, marking the first Senior League World Series victory for a team from Illinois in the tournament's 55-year history.

The White Sox will celebrate Northern Illinois University (NIU) Day on Sunday, August 28, with a ceremonial first pitch by NIU alumnus and "Chicago Fire" actorJoe Minoso as well as a National Anthem performance by NIU's acapella group, theHuskie Hunks. Minoso graduated from NIU in 2004 with a master's degree in fine arts. He has since appeared in "Prison Break," "Shameless" and the movie "Man of Steel." The Huskie Hunks took second place at the 2015 International Championship of Collegiate A Cappella. Actor Joe Sikora will throw a ceremonial first pitch. The Chicago native graduated from Columbia College with a degree in theater.
