CHICAGO -- Tim Anderson felt "a lot better" Friday after getting hit by a pitch in the left hand and exiting early from Thursday's win over the Tigers. The rookie shortstop hopes to return to action Saturday.
"It's just a little sore today," Anderson said. "It was really bad. I was very sore yesterday. It's kind of scary. I was able to get past the first game, so that was a good thing."
Anderson has a .264 average with 26 runs, five home runs and 12 RBIs through 47 games. While the White Sox don't want to lose another rookie to injury, much like Charlie Tilson, Kevan Smith and Matt Davidson before him, the White Sox will make sure Anderson is close to 100 percent before returning so Anderson doesn't try to compensate for the soreness and pick up any bad habits offensively.
"We're going to let him rest a little bit, and hopefully it feels better by tomorrow," White Sox manager Robin Ventura said of his shortstop, who had a large wrap on his left hand before Friday's opener against the Orioles. "He's had a nice run at it. He's been going out there every day.
"Sometimes you get these and there's another part of it where he just gets a little time off. I think that can help him, too. The injury is more why he's not playing, not anything else. There is a double meaning to it that he can get a little rest and get back."
Eaton taking in a new locale
Adam Eaton didn't change baseball teams at the non-waiver Trade Deadline, but he did move his locker in the White Sox home clubhouse. Eaton was previously situated between Todd Frazier and Brett Lawrie, a locker that is now empty, with Eaton's new home located next to Justin Morneau.
"Morneau, he's like, 'Why are you by two righties?' And I'm like, 'I don't know.' He's like, 'Why don't you come down here next to the two lefties' with Avilia and Morneau," a smiling Eaton said. "So we're going to talk a little more.
"Plus [he said], 'You're a power hitter now' -- so all jokes of course. As petty as it is and you guys don't care, but it gets cold in that seat and seriously, my body hurts from sitting in that seat, and so it's good for the body and for the mind. I'm excited for my relocation, but I'm sure I'll go visit them."
Deadline passing provides relief
The passing of the non-waiver Trade Deadline at 3:01 p.m. CT this past Monday brought a little relief to the White Sox clubhouse, which had to wait out the possibility of numerous moves.
"You really never want to pick up and move in any case or scenario," Eaton said. "It's kind of a touchy subject, because our job is to come win baseball games, and the thought of getting rid of guys is kind of not fun.
"Whether it's a relief or not, your job is to win baseball and come here ready to play. That's what most guys focus on, and we kind of have to or you'll think yourself into a tizzy so you have to be focused on the game at hand."
White Sox announce surgical updates
Tilson, who was acquired from St. Louis for left-handed reliever Zach Duke on Sunday, underwent season-ending surgery on Thursday to repair a torn left hamstring suffered while chasing a Miguel Cabrera fly ball during his White Sox debut Tuesday. The fleet-footed outfielder will miss the rest of the '16 season but is expected to be available without restrictions at the start of Spring Training.
Right-handed reliever Zach Putnam underwent surgery Thursday to remove bone fragments from his right elbow. His ligament was found to be intact, and he will begin the rehab process next week in his hometown of Ann Arbor, Mich.
