Rodon nearing rehab assignment

CHICAGO -- White Sox general manager Rick Hahn had good news and bad news during the injury-updates portion of his press briefing on Thursday at U.S. Cellular Field.
The good news was about left-hander , who's on the 15-day disabled list with a sprained left wrist.
"Carlos Rodon played catch again yesterday, felt good, is progressing nicely," Hahn said. "He will progress into a [side session] tomorrow. There will likely be another side a few days after that, and at some point there will be a rehab start in [Triple-A] Charlotte or somewhere prior to his return, but he is advancing and improving and hopefully that rehab isn't too far off."
The bad news pertained to catcher , right-hander and center fielder .
Avila, on the DL with a right hamstring strain, aggravated the injury during a game Tuesday with Charlotte on his rehab stint. Avila returned to Chicago for another MRI exam, which showed damage to the hamstring similar to the initial injury. Hahn said Avila would likely miss at least another four weeks.
Jackson, who's recovering from a medial meniscus tear in his left knee, will also remain out for an extended period. Hahn said Jackson will begin non-impact activities soon, but won't begin baseball activities for a while.
Likewise, Putnam's potential return to the bullpen was pushed back after he experienced a setback in his bout with ulnar neuritis during side throwing sessions. Hahn said Putnam will meet with a doctor soon with the expectation that surgery is needed to remove bone spurs from the elbow.
"We'll know after the surgery his prognosis, but it's obviously going to be several weeks after that before he potentially could return," Hahn said.
