Eaton placed on DL with hamstring strain

Center fielder tweaked right leg running to first, injured left knee earlier in season

CLEVELAND -- Adam Eaton exited Friday's 12-5 loss to Cleveland at Progressive Field in the bottom of the fourth inning with a strained right hamstring, replaced in center field by Jordan Danks.

With the bases loaded and one out in the top of the frame, Eaton hit a grounder up the middle that was gloved by shortstop Asdrubal Cabrera and turned into an inning-ending double play. Eaton, going full force to beat the play at first, appeared to tweak something as he hit the base awkwardly.

But Eaton has been bothered by this hamstring issue for about a week, and the hard-nosed leadoff man was placed on the disabled list on Saturday. The club also recalled left-handed pitcher Frank De Los Santos from Class AAA Charlotte, claimed outfielder Moises Sierra off waivers from Toronto and transferred right-handed pitcher Nate Jones to the 60-day disabled list in a flurry of roster moves.

"Just with both legs, and legs are the game that I play, so I'm not 100 percent sure, but that's what I'd say we're leaning towards," said Eaton of the DL after the game Friday. "We want to get everything right, and I'm not doing any good when I'm [playing] at 80 percent. I'm not sure what [White Sox head athletic trainer] Herm [Schneider] wants to do, but we'll see.

"It kind of started off [with] some small little irritation, and then it kind of felt a little more. You don't take anything serious in this game, especially with your body. You try to play through stuff, but that's what we were trying to do, and it kind of bit us in the butt. I don't know what other precautions we're going to take, DL or whatever. I'm not sure what's going to happen because I've got to talk to him, and I'll know more after."

Eaton, who is from Springfield, Ohio, missed five games from April 20-24 with a left knee strain. That combination of leg problems contributed to his DL thoughts.

"Well, he keeps having issues with a thigh, it's high up on his hamstring, but it's not his left knee that he was dealing with before," White Sox manager Robin Ventura said. "He just didn't look right running down the line. We'll assess him tonight. I know he won't be in there tomorrow."
