White Sox claim outfielder Sands off waivers
The White Sox made a move to increase their depth Wednesday, claiming outfielder Jerry Sands off waivers from the Indians. The 28-year-old batted .236 with four home runs and 19 RBIs in 50 games last season, and he's a career .238 hitter in 132 games in the Major Leagues.
Sands, who was originally taken by the Dodgers in the 25th round of the 2008 Draft, made his big league debut with Los Angeles in 2011.
Sands was dealt to Boston in 2012 as part of the major haul for Adrian Gonzalez, and he was traded from Boston to the Pirates after the '12 campaign.
Tampa Bay acquired the well-traveled Sands on a waiver claim in December 2013, and he signed with the Indians last offseason as a free agent. Sands is a career .276 hitter with 151 home runs in 698 games in the Minor Leagues, and he's hit .268 with 85 home runs in 439 games at the Triple-A level.
