The Chicago White Sox have claimed outfielder Daniel Fields off waivers from the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Fields, 24, spent most of the 2015 season with Class AAA Toledo in the Detroit organization, hitting .228 (102-447) with 25 doubles, seven home runs, 41 RBI, 66 walks, 17 stolen bases (24 attempts) and a .335 on-base percentage over 122 games. He made one appearance with the Tigers on June 4, his major-league debut, and recorded his first career hit. Fields, who bats left and throws right, was claimed off waivers by Milwaukee on September 10 and by the Dodgers on December 7.
Fields, 6-foot-2 and 215 pounds, is a career .244 hitter (579-2,369) with 42 homers, 260 RBI, 299 runs scored and a .329 on-base percentage in 649 games over six seasons in the Tigers system (2010-15). He was ranked by Baseball America as the best defensive outfielder in the Tigers organization following the 2012 and 2013 seasons.
Fields originally was selected by the Tigers in the sixth round of the 2009 First-Year Player Draft. He is the son of former major-league outfielder and hitting coach Bruce Fields.
Following the waiver claim, the White Sox 40-man roster increases to 38.
