After avoiding arbitration with right-hander Danny Farquhar with a one-year, $1.05 million deal on Friday, the White Sox tendered contracts to Jose Abreu, Avisail Garcia, Yolmer Sanchez, Carlos Rodon and Leury Garcia and non-tendered Al Alburquerque, Jake Petricka, Zach Putnam and Alen Hanson.
Albuquerque, Petricka, Putnam and Hanson are all free agents. For the players tendered contracts, the deadline to file for arbitration is Jan. 9 with figures getting exchanged on Jan. 12.

Farquhar made 52 relief appearances in 2017, including 15 for the White Sox after signing with them following his midseason release by the Rays. The 30-year-old had a 4.20 ERA with 28 walks and 45 strikeouts in 49 1/3 innings on the season. With Chicago, he had a 4.40 ERA, six walks and 12 strikeouts in 14 1/3 innings.
Abreu, Rodon, Garcia and Sanchez were all expected to be tendered contracts. But there has been trade talks surrounding Abreu in the last week.

"It's the same process we've been going through over the last year-plus," general manager Rick Hahn said. "We're going to evaluate what puts us in the best position for the long term, whether it's Jose or any other of our veteran players. We have to make the assessment, are we best served by attempting to keep them here through the bulk of what we project to be our competitive window, the window which we feel we'd win a championship, or are we better served as we were in certain other instances over the past 12 months, making a move that adds to this young core that we're growing together for the future?"
